Thailand Eyes Major Entertainment and Sports Investments to Boost EEC and High-Speed Rail Appeal
Deputy Prime Minister Pipat pushes plans for a global amusement park and an 80,000-seat stadium to strengthen the Eastern Economic Corridor and drive demand for the three-airport high-speed rail.
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister, Pipat Ratchakitprakan, has outlined an accelerated strategy to draw large-scale entertainment and sports investments into the Eastern Economic Corridor, positioning them as essential anchors for the viability of the high-speed rail network linking Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi and U-Tapao airports.
During recent discussions with the EEC Office and the Sports Authority of Thailand, the government highlighted two flagship concepts: a world-class amusement park developed in partnership with a major international operator, and a new national stadium designed to accommodate approximately 80,000 spectators.
The amusement park, expected to require no more than 3,000 rai of land, is intended to elevate the Pattaya–Chonburi region as a premier tourism destination.
The stadium would serve both international sports competitions and major concerts, helping decentralize large events currently concentrated in Bangkok.
Officials emphasized that these projects are designed to create strong demand for the high-speed rail system by giving travellers and investors compelling reasons to visit and engage with the region.
Although the developments remain in the feasibility-study phase, relevant agencies have been instructed to prepare land allocations and policy measures across Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Chachoengsao.
The proposals will be further refined before submission for government approval, with the long-term aim of transforming the EEC into a regional hub for leisure, tourism and major events.
