Thailand's Transport Ministry Endorses Six New Airport Projects
Plans to double air passenger capacity by 2044
The Transport Ministry of Thailand is set to back the development and construction of six new airports, aiming to establish the nation as the region's transportation hub.
During the 59th Directorate General of Civil Aviation Conference held in the Philippines, Deputy Transport Minister Manaporn Charoensri underscored the need for significant infrastructure investments in anticipation of air passenger numbers doubling within the next 20 years.
The six provinces earmarked for new airport development are Mukdahan, Bueng Kan, Satun, Phayao, Kalasin, and Phatthalung.
While the Mukdahan, Bueng Kan, and Satun airports are undergoing design and Environmental Impact Assessments, Phayao's EIA is approved, and the Kalasin and Phatthalung projects are in feasibility study phases.
The projects prioritize sustainability, safety, and accessibility for all users, striving to achieve zero carbon emissions in line with the 'Net Zero Roadmap: Decarbonise Your Airport' initiative.
These developments aim not only at infrastructural enhancement but also at promoting transportation equality and cultural inclusivity.
