AWS to Invest $5 Billion in Thailand to Boost Digital Skills

Amazon Web Services announced a five billion dollar investment in Thailand by 2037. The initiative includes the development of a new AWS region set to launch in early 2025. The investment aims to enhance cloud services and digital skills in Thailand, aligning with the government's 'Ignite Thailand' plan and fostering innovation and economic growth.
At the AWS Bangkok Summit 2024, Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced its plan to invest over five billion dollars (approximately 190 billion baht) in Thailand by 2037 as part of its strategy to solidify Thailand as a key market in Southeast Asia.

The investment will support the development of the AWS Asia Pacific (Bangkok) Region, scheduled to launch in early 2025.

This new region will enable a range of Thai entities, including developers, startups, and government organizations, to benefit from local data center services, leading to lower latency and improved cloud service options.

AWS Vice President Mai-Lan Tomsen Bukovec highlighted Thailand's entrepreneurial spirit and the importance of digital skill development in her remarks.

AWS will offer free online courses and AI training initiatives, including the 'AI Ready' program, to address the growing AI skills gap in the Thai workforce.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin praised the investment, noting its alignment with the country's 'Ignite Thailand' plan and its role in advancing Thailand's digital economy.

The AWS Bangkok Summit also emphasized AWS's commitment to making sophisticated cloud and AI technology accessible and collaborative efforts with the Thai government.

As Thailand emerges as a digital economy leader, e-commerce remains a significant growth driver, expected to reach a gross merchandise value of 50 billion dollars by 2025.
