Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brands are poised for prominence at the 41st Bangkok International Motor Expo, starting Friday and running until December 10.
Featuring 42 car brands from nine countries, the expo anticipates 1.5 million visitors.
Key Chinese participants include MG, Great Wall Motor, and BYD, which recently unveiled its Sealion 7 model, priced between $33,100 and $36,000.
According to Kwanchai Paphatphong, the event's chairman, eight new Chinese EV makers are among the participants.
Thailand, a growing EV market player, is anticipated to derive significant economic benefits, with expected revenues exceeding $2.1 billion.
Local industry experts like Yeap Xin Rhu of AAPICO HITECH highlight Thailand's potential as a Southeast Asian EV production hub due to its supplier network and the localization of international brands.
The Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand forecasts around 80,000 battery electric vehicle registrations this year, a 6.5-fold increase from 2021.
The burgeoning EV infrastructure and public adoption signal potent market potential.
