EEC Board Greenlights Investment Projects Valued at 535 Billion Baht
The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Board has greenlighted a 535 billion baht investment to develop an Economic Promotion Zone in Chonburi's Bang Lamung district. The zone encompasses a business hub and a sustainable "smart city" over 927.2 hectares.
This area is set to become a Special Economic Promotion Area, benefiting selected businesses with tax incentives among other advantages. It's a strategic move to boost EEC growth, expected to draw investment and generate employment opportunities.
Key industries targeted include healthcare, education, technology, aviation, logistics, food processing, and tourism, as well as financial services and living spaces. The initiative emphasizes an eco-friendly business environment with innovative and sustainable design.
With the development, it's anticipated that over 350,000 people will reside in the area, creating 200,000 direct jobs and stimulating more than 1.2 trillion baht in employment potential. It aims to support 150-300 new startups, and potentially surge GDP by 2 trillion baht in a decade.
The EEC's vision is to rank this smart city project among the top 10 globally by 2037.
