Grab Thailand Launches Teen-Focused Safety Features for Ride-Hailing Users Aged 13 to 19
Grab For Family | Teens adds top-rated driver matching, PIN ride verification, always-on audio recording, and real-time parental monitoring
Grab Thailand has introduced 'Grab For Family | Teens', an expansion of its existing family feature that allows users aged thirteen to nineteen to book rides independently under enhanced safety protocols while permitting parents or guardians to monitor trips in real time.
The company stated the launch is intended to broaden access to ride-hailing across age groups while maintaining platform-wide safety standards.
According to Grab Thailand, the teen-focused feature builds on existing safety measures, including stringent driver background checks requiring a clean seven-year criminal record and biometric facial recognition to verify driver identity.
Previously introduced safeguards—such as Share My Ride real-time location sharing, an in-app Safety Centre with emergency assistance, AudioProtect in-ride audio recording, SOS functionality, and KartaDashcams—remain available.
The upgraded teen version includes four specific safety features:
1. Top-Rated Drivers – teen users are matched only with drivers who have consistently received high service ratings.
2. Ride PIN Verification – the teen must enter a PIN provided by the driver before the ride begins to confirm vehicle accuracy.
3. Always-on AudioProtect – all car journeys are automatically recorded to provide evidence in case of incidents.
4. Family Monitoring – parents or guardians can track rides in real time and receive alerts for route deviations, unplanned stops, or premature ride termination.
Grab also announced plans to integrate generative artificial intelligence to detect inappropriate activity inside vehicles in real time, enabling immediate intervention by the support team.
Additional protections under development include restrictions on access to age-limited products, suppression of advertisements for restricted items, and limiting GrabPay Wallet top-ups for teens by disabling credit card use.
Grab For Family was originally launched to support elderly users, especially those less familiar with digital services.
The new teen-focused version aims to address the needs of Generation Alpha and Generation Z, together representing more than twenty million people in Thailand.
