Loy Krathong Festival Expected to Boost Thai Tourism Revenue by 6.9 Billion Baht
Tourism Authority of Thailand predicts significant growth in domestic travel during festival
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) anticipates that the Loy Krathong festival, celebrated across five regions from November 13-16, 2024, will generate 6.9 billion baht in tourism revenue through 1.9 million domestic trips.
The TAT governor, Thapanee Kiatphaibool, forecasts a 9% increase in tourist numbers and a 12% rise in revenue compared to the previous year.
Northern provinces are expected to be the primary attraction, with 568,740 trips generating 2.5 billion baht, a 9% growth in revenue.
Central and western regions are projected to see 380,440 trips yielding 797 million baht.
Bangkok's 'Amazing Night of Lights: Loy Krathong Festival' could bring 1.37 billion baht from 330,450 trips with an occupancy rate of 72%.
In the east and northeast, local trips are expected to grow by 19% and 12%, respectively, with eastern provinces earning 1.12 billion baht, a 22% increase.
The north and northeast regions benefit from favorable weather, while potential setbacks include elevated household debt and PM2.5 pollution.
Major destinations with unique traditions like Sukhothai, Tak, Chiang Mai, Samut Songkhram, and Roi Et are anticipated to welcome 330,400 trips generating over 1.3 billion baht.
Chiang Mai leads with 147,330 trips, expecting to recover fully from recent flooding with an 87% occupancy rate.
