Heavy traffic is reported on the main route to the Northeast as people leave Bangkok for New Year festivities. The Mittraparb Road in Nakhon Ratchasima is packed, prompting the opening of additional lanes for reverse traffic. With the New Year's holiday extended, the M6 motorway is anticipated to be busier as travelers head to their hometowns.
Since yesterday afternoon, Sikhiu district has experienced notable congestion, with vehicles crawling at 30-40 km/h, exacerbated by large trucks on the road causing over 2 km of backups.
Despite four lanes being in use, including an extra shoulder lane, traffic is slow and at times at a standstill. Even with the Nakhon Ratchasima motorway section open, Mittraparb Road remains congested. More drivers are expected to use the M6 today, enjoying views of Lam Takhong Dam en route.
