OpenAI’s Sora App Launches in Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan
AI video creation tool goes live in Asia with Thai-language support and advanced features
OpenAI has officially released its AI video-generation app Sora in Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan, making Thailand one of the first Asian markets to access the next-generation tool.
The app, powered by the company’s advanced model Sora 2, was first released in the United States and Canada and now supports local languages, including Thai.
Users can now download Sora on iOS in Thailand without an invite code.
The app allows creators to generate highly realistic short videos from text prompts, remix others’ videos and use a Cameos feature that enables users to insert themselves or characters into scenes after one-time identity verification.
The launch includes Character Cameos and an initial “holiday starter pack” of personas, designed to spark creativity among local storytellers.
OpenAI selected Thailand for early rollout citing its vibrant creative community and growing digital storytelling scene.
The company has emphasised responsible deployment including water‐marking of AI-generated content, teen usage limits and parental controls.
Sora’s arrival signals a substantial push into the Asian market and opens new creative opportunities for Thai artists, influencers and everyday users alike.
While the expansion brings cutting-edge technology to the region, it also raises questions about content moderation, copyright and the readiness of local ecosystems to engage with generative video at scale.
For now, OpenAI appears to aim at empowering creators rather than simply offering a reactive tool, positioning Sora as a platform for storytelling in local languages and cultural contexts.
