Pattaya Nightclub Raid Reveals Drug Use Among 39 Chinese Tourists
Authorities detain tourists following a raid on Panda Club but find no evidence of drugs on the premises.
In a coordinated operation early Sunday morning, police and Interior Ministry officials raided a popular nightclub, Panda Club, located on Pattaya's Walking Street, detaining 39 Chinese tourists who tested positive for drug use.
The raid, conducted at 3:36 a.m. by over 100 law enforcement personnel and officials from the Provincial Administration Department, was ordered by Chonburi deputy governor Chaiyaporn Paepiromrat.
The operation was prompted by a report of a severe injury involving a Chinese tourist at the venue on December 27.
Upon entering the club, authorities encountered around 300 patrons, primarily Thai and Chinese nationals, engaged in drinking and dancing.
Patrons were separated by gender, their identification cards were checked, and urine samples were taken to test for drug use.
Test results indicated that 19 Chinese men and 20 Chinese women tested positive for drug consumption.
However, no illegal substances were found on the premises.
The 39 individuals were taken to Pattaya Police Station for further legal action, while the remaining patrons were released.
Despite the drug test findings, no charges were filed against the management of Panda Club.
The raid highlights ongoing efforts by local authorities to monitor and address illegal activities in Pattaya, a city renowned for its vibrant nightlife and international tourism appeal.
