Songkran Festival in Ayutthaya: Elephants Splash in Colorful Water Celebration
The Songkran Festival, a Thai New Year celebration, began in Ayutthaya with elephants joining in the water splashing tradition.
Ten elephants, decorated with flower patterns, participated in the event, which was attended by senior tourism officials and local authorities.
The festival, themed "Ayutthaya Grand Songkran: Fun, Happiness, and Merit," welcomed both Thai and international tourists.
During the Songkran festival from April 13-15, elephants joined in the water celebrations with excitement.
This tradition helps preserve cultural heritage, benefits locals economically, and takes place at designated areas from noon to 9 p.m. Safety measures, including weapon inspections and traffic management at over 10 checkpoints, are implemented for tourists' security.
