Storm Wipha Causes Widespread Damage Across Northern Thailand
Severe tropical storm leads to fatalities, injuries, and significant impact on health facilities in multiple provinces.
As of July 29, 2025, the severe tropical storm Wipha has had a devastating impact on Northern Thailand, confirmed by the Ministry of Public Health.
The storm has resulted in the death of 7 individuals, with 143 others reported injured and one person still missing.
The provinces most affected include Chiang Rai, Nan, Phrae, Phayao, Lampang, Chiang Mai, and Sukhothai, with 5 of these provinces currently still facing repercussions from the storm.
A total of 48 districts are experiencing ongoing effects, specifically: Chiang Rai (15 districts), Nan (12 districts), Sukhothai (5 districts), Phrae (7 districts), and Phayao (9 districts).
The Ministry has also reported significant damage to public health infrastructure, with 43 health facilities impacted by the storm.
In response to this natural disaster, the Ministry has activated the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) at the provincial levels in the most severely affected areas, including Chiang Rai, Nan, Phayao, and Sukhothai.
Emergency services and health officials are mobilized to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance to the affected populations.
