Thailand Launches 'Cheer Up Seniors 60+' Campaign with Nationwide Discounts
New initiative offers substantial discounts on essentials for seniors, with a projected 30 billion baht boost to the economy.
Thailand's Commerce Ministry has launched the 'Cheer Up Seniors 60+' campaign, aimed at supporting citizens aged 60 and above by offering discounts on 20,000 products across the country.
The campaign, which will run for 91 days until April 30, 2025, follows the government's previous initiative that distributed 10,000 baht to eligible seniors.
The new program targets easing the financial burden on the elderly and stimulating spending, with an expected impact of over 30 billion baht on the economy.
Minister Pichai Naripthaphan announced that over 200 businesses, including manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, and online platforms, are participating in the campaign.
The discounts apply to a wide range of products, including consumer goods, medical services, and home appliances, with savings of up to 86%.
Products featured in the campaign include adult diapers, nutritional supplements, low-sugar rice, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, medical services like bone density scans, and heart health screenings. This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to stimulate economic activity through senior citizens.
The Commerce Ministry has pledged to oversee the pricing of products to prevent monopolistic practices and unfair pricing.
Special events to sell discounted goods will be held in locations such as Bangkok, Lamphun, and Phuket during the campaign period.
Pichai emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth, with Thailand's 2024 investment figures reaching 1.13 trillion baht and exports growing by 5.4%.
Efforts to address consumer spending are also being supported by the Finance Ministry and the Bank of Thailand.
