Thailand Ranks Third Globally in QR Code Usage

Over 61% of Thai population utilizes QR codes monthly, reflecting rapid digital payment adoption.
In 2024, Thailand emerged as a global leader in QR code usage, with 61.5% of its population engaging in monthly QR code transactions.

This places Thailand third worldwide, following China at 67.4% and Malaysia at 66.1%.

QR codes, or Quick Response codes, have become integral to Thailand's payment landscape, facilitating seamless and contactless transactions.

The Bank of Thailand's 'Cross-border QR Payments' initiative has been pivotal in this digital shift, enabling both domestic and international banks to support QR code payments.

This system allows users to swiftly access information or make cashless payments by scanning codes with their smartphones.

The widespread adoption of QR payments in Thailand underscores the nation's rapid digital transformation and the growing acceptance of cashless transactions in daily life.

This trend is further supported by the country's PromptPay system, which has enhanced the efficiency and security of digital transactions.

Tourists in Thailand also benefit from the QR payment infrastructure, enjoying convenient and secure payment options without relying on cash or credit cards.

By simply scanning a QR code via their mobile banking apps, visitors can conduct transactions with zero fees, ensuring a seamless payment experience nationwide.

Beyond Thailand, other Asian nations have also embraced QR code technology.

Vietnam reports a 58.3% monthly usage rate, while Taiwan stands at 57.4%.
