Thailand to Reskill Over 5 Million Workers in 2025
Focus on Digital Technology to Propel Industrial Growth
The Department of Skill Development (DSD) in Thailand aims to upskill and reskill over five million workers in 2025, emphasizing digital technology to support industrial advancement.
According to Decha Pruekphathanarak, deputy permanent secretary for labour, this retraining initiative is designed to enhance worker competencies, aligning with policy guidelines set by the government and Labour Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn.
The policy focuses on developing the workforce to meet the demands of Thailand's expanding industries.
Currently, there are 13 courses available, supporting government policies on soft power, automotive, and digital sectors, including AI.
These courses are accessible online, allowing participation outside regular work hours.
The DSD is collaborating with public and private sectors to design these courses, and workers are encouraged to take skill tests to qualify for higher wages.
The department plans to expand testing centers to cover 129 professions and implement measures to encourage employers to develop their personnel.
Under the skill development promotion law, employers providing skill development opportunities are entitled to benefits.
