Toyota aims to launch an electric Hilux pickup by 2025, with plans for mass production announced by the company's Thailand chief this Tuesday.
This move follows Isuzu Motors' announcement to produce its own electric D-Max in Thailand by 2025. Thailand, known for its automotive industry, especially in pickup trucks, will see Toyota start road tests for these electric pickups in Pattaya next month.
Toyota's electric venture is part of a broader shift towards electric vehicles (EV) in Thailand, with Chinese companies investing heavily in the sector. Toyota, leading the Thai market, plans to sell 250,000 vehicles in Thailand this year and will begin public transport trials with its Hilux Revo-e electric pickups in Pattaya.
