USA Boxing Youth Team Heads to Bangkok for 2026 World Boxing Futures Cup
American youth squad prepares for international competition in Thailand as tournament doubles as pathway to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games
The United States Youth High Performance boxing team is traveling to Bangkok to compete in the 2026 World Boxing Futures Cup, marking the squad’s first international competition of the year and a crucial step toward qualification for the Youth Olympic Games.
The American delegation was assembled following a national selection process that evaluated the top youth champions from the 2025 USA Boxing National Championships.
Seventeen athletes—nine male and eight female—took part in a high-performance training and evaluation camp at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs before final team selections were made.
After the camp concluded, the selected boxers departed for Thailand to represent the United States at the international tournament, which runs from March eight to March fifteen in Bangkok.
The competition brings together leading under-nineteen fighters from around the world and serves as an important platform for young athletes seeking to advance through the Olympic development pathway.
The event is organized under the banner of World Boxing and hosted by the Thailand Boxing Association, reflecting Thailand’s growing prominence as a venue for major international sporting competitions.
The tournament is open to male and female fighters born between January one, two thousand eight and December thirty-one, two thousand nine, with each participating national federation allowed to enter one boxer per weight category.
Participation in the Futures Cup is a mandatory step for boxers hoping to be considered for the boxing tournament at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
While strong performances in Bangkok can strengthen an athlete’s prospects, final Youth Olympic selection depends on additional qualification criteria and weight-category limits.
The American team includes several returning athletes who have already gained international experience.
Among them are Lauryn Elmore in the women’s sixty-five-kilogram division and Angel Blancarte in the men’s eighty-five-kilogram category, both of whom earned bronze medals for the United States at the 2025 Brandenburg Cup in Germany.
USA Boxing’s youth program aims to identify and develop emerging talent capable of representing the country on the global stage in the coming Olympic cycles.
Coaches and officials say events such as the Futures Cup provide young fighters with essential exposure to international competition, helping them refine their skills and adapt to diverse fighting styles.
The Bangkok tournament is expected to feature athletes from numerous boxing federations worldwide, turning the event into one of the most significant youth boxing gatherings of the year.
For the American team, the competition offers an opportunity not only to pursue medals but also to build momentum as the pathway toward the Youth Olympic Games intensifies.
Thailand’s role as host highlights the country’s ability to stage high-profile global sporting events, welcoming athletes and teams from across the world to compete in a setting that combines strong sporting infrastructure with a vibrant international sports community.
