Bangkok Smog Hits Hazardous Levels as Unsafe Air Quality Spreads Across 15 Provinces
Smog levels in Bangkok and 15 provinces reach hazardous thresholds, with ultrafine dust levels exceeding safety standards.
On February 5, 2025, residents of Bangkok faced severe air quality issues as smog levels reached hazardous red zones, according to the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Gistda).
At 1pm, particulate matter (PM2.5) levels in the capital exceeded the safe threshold, registering at 75.3 micrograms per cubic meter, well above the government-set limit of 37.5 µg/m³.
Outside Bangkok, 15 provinces also recorded unsafe air quality, with PM2.5 levels ranging from 37.7 to 64.4 µg/m³, indicating health risks.
These provinces included Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Pathum Thani, and others.
Meanwhile, 48 provinces experienced moderate air quality, marked by yellow levels of PM2.5 ranging from 25.3 to 37.3 µg/m³.
Thirteen southern provinces enjoyed relatively better air quality, with green levels of PM2.5 ranging from 16.5 to 24.3 µg/m³.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as air quality remains a significant concern across the country.
