Today, the cabinet sanctioned a 2 to 16 baht daily increase in the minimum wage following recommendations from the Tripartite Wage Committee. The updated wages, ranging from 330 baht (a 2 baht rise) to 370 baht (up by 354 baht), will take effect on January 1, impacting 77 provinces, each with varying rates based on their local cost of living and economic conditions.
Government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke relayed that Labour Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn acknowledged the modest hike but recognized the necessity to adhere to the Wage Committee's decision. Additionally, the committee plans to reconvene on January 17 to discuss establishing a subcommittee tasked with evaluating pay rates for all occupations.
The proposed subcommittee would include members from the Commerce Ministry, the National Economic and Social Development Council, the Bank of Thailand, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, aiming to determine more fitting minimum wages by the end of March.
