Cambodian Forces Intensify Attacks Across Seven Border Sectors; Thai Military Responds with Drones and Artillery
Clashes between Thai and Cambodian forces continue to escalate along the disputed frontier with sustained bombardments and counter-fire amid heavy fighting
Fighting along the long disputed border between Thailand and Cambodia has escalated, with Cambodian forces deploying sustained artillery barrages, BM-21 multiple rocket launchers, explosive drones and suicide drones against Thai positions across at least seven frontline sectors.
Thailand’s Second Army Area, responsible for security along the eastern border, reported that the Cambodian assaults began in the morning and have continued throughout the day.
According to the Thai military, these operations targeted forward positions in Ubon Ratchathani, Surin and Si Sa Ket provinces, among others, with rockets, shells and drones striking defensive lines and nearby terrain.
Cambodian forces have also concentrated efforts on contested terrain near Phu Makhuea and temple precincts in the border region.
Thai forces, in response, have engaged with direct and indirect fire, including artillery, armored units and attack aircraft, while conducting operations to repel the incursions and safeguard national territory.
The Second Army Area stated that its units have maintained control over key positions, struck designated enemy assets and inflicted significant losses on opposing forces.
During these engagements, Thai soldiers have suffered casualties, with military briefings indicating fatalities and multiple injuries among personnel on the frontline.
Cambodian casualties have also been acknowledged in recent operational summaries.
The broader conflict along the Thailand-Cambodia frontier has its roots in longstanding territorial disagreements and intermittent flare-ups, most notably a violent period of hostilities in July that resulted in dozens of deaths and mass displacement before a truce was brokered.
Renewed hostilities in early December have rapidly grown in scale, drawing in advanced weapon systems and unmanned aerial systems from both sides.
The Thai government has framed its actions as defensive, conducted within the boundaries of international law and national sovereignty obligations.
Cambodia has repeatedly accused Thailand of acting aggressively, though it continues to assert its own territorial claims.
Civilians on both sides of the border have been displaced by the intensified clashes, and authorities continue to urge non-combatants to evacuate danger zones.
Humanitarian concerns persist amid the ongoing military operations, as diplomatic channels remain strained and international mediation efforts seek to prevent further escalation.
The situation remains highly fluid, with both militaries prepared for continued engagement along multiple segments of the frontier.
