Government Assures Families of Thai Hostages of Ongoing Efforts for Their Release
Kanchana reported that Thailand supports global calls for a ceasefire and the immediate liberation of all hostages. She highlighted that Thailand, alongside 152 other countries, voted for Egypt's UN resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire and the unconditional release of all hostages.
Kanchana reassured the hostages' families that efforts for their loved ones' release are ongoing. Following an attack by Hamas on October 7, which resulted in over 1,200 deaths and approximately 240 hostages, the Gaza Strip has been under assault from Israeli forces.
The conflict has caused a staggering loss of life in Gaza, with media sources citing 18,800 fatalities, including thousands of children and women. Of the hostages initially taken, 23 Thais have returned home, and they were predominantly agricultural workers in Southern Israel who were captured and taken to Gaza.
While Israeli authorities informed the Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv that 19 of the 135 hostages remaining are deceased, their nationalities remain unspecified, states Kanchana. The current death toll for Thais in the conflict stands at 39, with no further deaths reported since November 11. Three Thai survivors are currently receiving care in a hospital in Tel Aviv, with the embassy staff closely monitoring their recovery.
Additionally, Kanchana mentioned that those Thai citizens who have chosen to remain in Israel are reportedly residing in safe areas.
