King Endorses Kitrat Phanphet as National Police Chief
His Majesty the King has appointed Pol Gen Kitrat Phanphet as the new national police chief, effective October ninth, twenty twenty-four. This decision, detailed in the Royal Gazette, follows the retirement of his predecessor Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol. Pol Gen Kitrat will serve until September twenty twenty-six and has acted as the national police chief during prior leadership conflicts.
His Majesty the King has endorsed Pol Gen Kitrat Phanphet as the new national police chief, with the appointment taking effect from October 9, 2024.
The announcement, published in the Royal Gazette, was countersigned by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
Pol Gen Kitrat replaces Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol, who retired at the end of September.
Kitrat, the most senior candidate considered, will serve until his retirement in September 2026.
He previously served as acting national police chief during a leadership standoff between Pol Gen Torsak and Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, the latter of whom was dismissed.
