Cultural Celebrations Set for November at Bangkok's Temple of Dawn
Loy Krathong, the traditional Thai festival of light, will illuminate Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn, in Bangkok's Yai district on November 15.
Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol announced that the festival's theme song will be performed in multiple languages including Thai, English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish by the Suntharaporn Band to enhance cultural understanding among visitors.
The Culture Ministry's Department of Cultural Promotion, alongside various partners, is taking initiatives to promote the event globally through social media.
The ministry advises against using fireworks and sky lanterns for safety, and recommends eco-friendly materials for making krathongs to prevent water pollution.
Collaborations with the Tourism Authority of Thailand are also facilitating festivities in Chiang Mai, Tak, Sukhothai, Samut Sakhon, and Roi Et — cities renowned for their celebration of Loy Krathong.
In Bangkok, festivities will occur at established locations like Rama VIII Bridge and Khlong Ong Ang.
Deputy Bangkok Governor Sanon Wangsrangboon mentioned that there will also be a digital Loy Krathong festival at Bangkok City Hall, in association with AEON Thailand Foundation, Wat Suthat, and other organizations.
Proceeds from food vendors at this event will aid Wat Suthat's restoration.
Talks are ongoing with the district office about organizing an event at Khlong Ong Ang, while Santiphap Park in Ratchathewi district might host a digital festival pending further planning due to space and technical considerations.
