New state employees to get 10% pay hike with effect from May
Starting in May, new state employees in Thailand will get a 10% salary increase, raising their monthly pay from 15,000 to 18,000 baht, as announced by Foreign Minister and Civil Service Committee Chair Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara.
The raise coincides with the FY2024 budget starting in April and aims to counteract the rising cost of living over a two-year period.
This salary boost will affect entry-level government workers and entails subsequent increases for current employees earning less than 18,000 baht. However, high-expertise "C9" level employees and above are excluded.
The government categorizes staff from C1 to C11 based on qualifications and responsibilities.
The 2024 salary adjustment will cost 5-6 billion baht from emergency funds, while 2025's adjustment will utilize over 10 billion baht from the annual budget. These financial changes are part of an efficiency and workforce streamlining plan.
Parnpree expressed confidence in eventually reaching a 25,000 baht starting salary for those with a bachelor's degree within four years, provided economic conditions and state revenue permit.
