New York Museum to Return 'Golden Boy' and Kneeling Woman Artifacts Back to Thailand
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is set to return two valuable Thai artifacts, the 'Golden Boy' representing the deity Shiva and a bronze statue of a kneeling woman, to Thailand
The operation is part of a 2017 initiative that has successfully returned numerous Thai cultural items, including a historic lintel and Buddha figures.
This move comes in the wake of the museum's pledge to return over a dozen ancient artworks to Cambodia and Thailand, linked to the late Douglas Latchford, who faced charges of trafficking Southeast Asian antiquities.
The museum will repatriate 14 sculptures to Cambodia in addition to the Thai pieces, highlighting the global emphasis on returning cultural assets to their countries of origin.
