Nok Air Targets Mid-2028 Exit from Rehabilitation with Debt Reduced Below 400 Million Baht
Thai low-cost carrier reports second straight annual profit, plans free domestic flights for foreign tourists and expanded international network
Nok Air plans to exit its court-supervised rehabilitation by mid-2028 with outstanding debt reduced to under 400 million baht, down from a previous 5.4 billion baht.
Chief Executive Wutthiphum Jurangkool stated that the airline is focusing on strengthening its core business and improving revenue and margins to meet its recovery targets.
In 2024, Nok Air recorded revenue of 7 billion baht and a net profit of 60 million baht from 4 million passengers, marking its second consecutive year of profitability after nine years of losses.
In the first half of the year, it earned 4 billion baht and aims to match last year’s figures by year-end, supported by improved aircraft utilisation during night operations and higher fares on international routes.
During the summer period, Nok Air maintained domestic services to 15 Thai cities.
For the upcoming winter schedule, the airline plans to resume international flights to Hyderabad and Mumbai in India, Nanning and Zhengzhou in China, and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
Additional new services are scheduled to launch to Delhi, Bali, and Manila.
The airline currently operates a fleet of 14 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with 10 in active service.
Two more aircraft are expected this year under six-month wet lease agreements to support route expansion.
Nok Air will participate in a Tourism Authority of Thailand initiative offering foreign tourists free domestic flights between September and November by allowing them to redeem their international tickets.
Each participating Thai carrier is expected to offer 60,000 seats as part of the programme, pending cabinet approval.
The airline plans to grow its fleet to 20–30 aircraft within five years and is scheduled to receive Boeing 737 Max 8 jets following a five-year delay.
To enhance passenger experience, Nok Air has launched an in-flight entertainment system featuring Korean drama series through Viu, onboard shopping for local products, and a frequent flyer platform called Nok Deal.
The carrier aims to increase its international passenger share to 40% of total seat capacity within three to four years and plans to enter the freighter business with one aircraft dedicated to the e-commerce sector by late 2025 or early 2026.
