Prime Minister Participates in Virtual Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin participated in the 4th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Leaders' Meeting via video link, speaking on the theme of building a shared future and modernizing among Mekong-Lancang countries. Thavisin highlighted the MLC's progress in key areas, acknowledged China's support through the MLC Special Fund, and emphasized the MLC's role in improving the quality of life within the region.
Thavisin proposed the "Advancement of Three Futures" strategy to bolster MLC goals: enhancing regional infrastructure connectivity, addressing non-traditional security challenges like crime and environmental issues, and fostering new economic growth avenues through innovation and tourism.
As Thailand becomes the new Co-Chair, it commits to work with all member countries and synergize MLC with other regional initiatives, aiming for peace and prosperity in the Mekong-Lancang community.
The MLC, initiated by Thailand in 2012, focuses on political, security, economic, sustainable development, and socio-cultural cooperation across five areas: connectivity, production capacity, cross-border economic cooperation, water resources, and agriculture and poverty reduction.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of three critical documents aiming to guide the MLC from 2023 to 2027, including a declaration, a five-year action plan, and joint initiatives for developing the MLC Innovation Corridor.
