Prime Minister's Visit to Narathiwat Today for Flooding Inspection
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is scheduled to visit Narathiwat today after a cabinet meeting to evaluate the flood impact and support affected residents.
The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for continued heavy rains in southern Thailand, including more expected today and tomorrow.
The Prime Minister has requested that local officials forgo formal greetings and focus on assisting flood victims instead. He has previously expressed his concern on Facebook about the southern floods causing extensive property damage and tasked Deputy Interior Minister Kriang Kaltinan with coordinating disaster response and aid in Narathiwat and Yala.
He's also directed the Meteorological Department to closely track the weather, as cooler temperatures and heavy rainfall continue in the region.
Authorities have alerted seven southern provinces—Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Trang, and Satun—to prepare for severe rains, potential flooding, overflowing watercourses, and turbulent seas in the Gulf of Thailand due to a strong low-pressure system in the southern Andaman Sea.
The Gulf could see waves between 2-4 meters high, occasionally exceeding 4 meters in storm conditions, while the Andaman Sea might have 2-3 meter waves. Fishermen and sailors are cautioned to be extremely careful, with smaller boats recommended to stay docked today and tomorrow.
Although a potent cold front from China affecting Thailand and the South China Sea has slightly weakened, cold and windy conditions persist, with temperatures ranging from 6°C to 12°C in the northern and northeastern highlands.
