The Thai government, led by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, has announced a comprehensive three-year water management plan costing 548.4 billion baht to address water security.
During a meeting at the Royal Irrigation Department (RID), the premier emphasized the importance of water security, especially due to new industries requiring substantial water consumption.
The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) is tasked with drafting the plan, which includes projects like new dams, irrigation improvements, and watershed area rehabilitation, aiming to provide 4.5 million households with clean water and increase water reserves to 4.7 billion cubic meters.
The plan is expected for cabinet approval by August and will integrate public-private partnerships where feasible.
