Thai Ministry of Public Health Unveils Upgraded Gold Card Scheme: Streamlined Single ID Access to Health Services
The Thai Ministry of Public Health's spokesperson, Treechada Srithada, announced an updated Universal Coverage scheme, known colloquially as the gold card or 30-baht scheme, now operational in pilot regions—Phrae, Roi Et, Phetchaburi, and Narathiwat.
This enhanced scheme, which began on January 7th, allows citizens to use their Thai ID card to access healthcare services. The launch event in Roi Et featured Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, Public Health Minister Dr. Cholnan Srikaew, other officials, and over 10,000 residents.
Initially available in the four aforementioned provinces, this streamlined system will be introduced nationally in the future. Treechada explained that the initiative aligns with the Pheu Thai Party's policies and the government's commitment to Parliament.
Residents can now use a single ID card for healthcare at both public and private hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies enrolled in the program. This move ensures that all Thais have equal access to treatment for all medical conditions, Treechada emphasized.
