Thailand Condemns Cambodian Rocket Barrages Amid Intensifying Border Conflict

Bangkok denounces sustained BM-21 rocket fire into Thai territory as clashes escalate along the Cambodia–Thailand frontier
Thailand’s government has forcefully condemned repeated rocket attacks by Cambodian forces along the disputed border, characterising the saturation of medium-range BM-21 rockets into Thai territory as an abhorrent assault on civilians and military personnel.

The renewed hostilities, which erupted in early December after a skirmish left Thai soldiers wounded, have seen Cambodian forces launching daily barrages of rockets that Thai authorities say have struck residential areas, damaged homes and infrastructure, and caused civilian casualties, including the reported death of a sixty-three-year-old villager in Sisaket province.

Thai officials argue that Cambodia’s extensive use of indiscriminate rocket fire fails to distinguish military targets from civilian life, contravening the protections afforded to non-combatants under international humanitarian principles and sparking widespread alarm across border communities.

The Royal Thai Army and government representatives have repeatedly called for accountability and an immediate end to the bombardment, underscoring their commitment to protecting the lives and security of Thai nationals and defending national sovereignty.

In response to the rocket barrages, Thailand has conducted air and ground operations targeting Cambodian military positions and contested areas along the frontier as part of its broader defence measures.

The escalating cycle of violence has displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians on both sides of the border, drawing diplomatic engagement from regional actors as well as appeals for restraint.

Thailand affirms that its actions are calibrated to restore peace and safeguard its people, but the intensity of the exchanges — marked by the sheer volume of rockets fired and the profound distress inflicted upon border populations — continues to exacerbate fears of a wider conflagration if hostilities are not de-escalated promptly.
