Thailand to Launch Online TM6 Immigration Form for Foreign Arrivals in May
Digital TM6 form to replace paper-based system; potential delay in implementing 300-baht tourism fee
Thailand is set to implement a new online immigration form for foreign arrivals, replacing the traditional paper TM6 form starting May 1, 2025. This initiative, overseen by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, comes after the temporary suspension of the TM6 form on April 15, 2024. The shift to a digital format is aimed at enhancing the tracking of tourists during their stay in Thailand, thereby bolstering safety measures and improving the country's image.
According to Natthriya Thaweevong, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the online TM6 form is compliant with all foreign arrivals by air, land, and sea.
Preparations for its implementation included meetings with the Immigration Bureau and other stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, airline companies, hotels, and tour agencies, to facilitate the transition.
The deputy permanent secretary, Mongkon Wimonrat, noted that the digital TM6 form was prioritized over other entry screening methods to minimize visitor confusion.
He confirmed that the online form would be mandatory and free of charge.
Approval from the cabinet is anticipated soon to ensure all related parties are ready for the change.
Meanwhile, there is speculation that the introduction of a proposed 300-baht tourism fee could be delayed.
An anonymous source from the ministry indicated that ongoing adjustments to the TM6 system could extend its timeline for smooth operation, influencing the decision to postpone the fee.
Additionally, concerns have been raised about timing, as Thailand is dealing with reports of illicit activities involving its use as a transit hub.
To ensure that the online TM6 form's implementation is seamless, other procedural measures like electronic travel authorizations for visa-free travelers may also be deferred.
The government remains focused on executing the TM6 process efficiently and without any interruptions.
