Thailand Ushers in 2026 with Nationwide Countdown Celebrations Anchored by Phayao and Su-ngai Kolok
Bangkok and provincial festivities highlight cultural diversity and tourism momentum as the country prepares for New Year’s Eve
Thailand is preparing to welcome the arrival of 2026 with an ambitious nationwide programme of countdown celebrations, anchored by flagship events in Phayao and Su-ngai Kolok and complemented by a series of festivities in Bangkok and other key destinations.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand said the multi-day events, scheduled between December twenty-seventh and thirty-first, are designed to showcase regional identity, cultural richness and local hospitality while boosting tourism and reinforcing Thailand’s position as a leading festive destination in Asia.
In northern Thailand, the Amazing Thailand Phayao Countdown Flora Fest 2026 will take place from December twenty-eighth to thirty-first at Pho Khun Ngam Mueang Monument Plaza and around Kwan Phayao.
Paying tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, the four-day programme features large-scale lighting displays, floral art exhibitions, drone performances and a grand fireworks show on New Year’s Eve.
The celebrations will culminate in a high-profile countdown evening with ceremonial proceedings and VIP attendance.
In the deep South, the Amazing Thailand Su-ngai Kolok Countdown 2026, running over the same period at Sirindhorn Public Park in Narathiwat, aims to highlight the cultural and creative energy of the border region.
The event includes decorative lighting, live concerts by nationally recognised artists and performances rooted in local traditions, building toward a New Year’s Eve fireworks display.
The official countdown ceremony, attended by senior representatives from Thailand and neighbouring Malaysia, underscores Su-ngai Kolok’s role as a cross-border cultural and tourism gateway.
Bangkok’s year-end celebrations are equally elaborate.
The Amazing Thailand Countdown 2026 at ICONSIAM from December twenty-seventh to thirty-first will feature four-dimensional sky displays combining environmentally friendly fireworks, drones and pyrotechnics over the Chao Phraya River, alongside performances by high-profile Thai and global artists.
Urban celebrations at One Bangkok, CentralwOrld and Rajamangala National Stadium will offer immersive music, light shows and large-scale entertainment leading up to the midnight countdown.
Provincial destinations across the country are also staging distinctive New Year’s events.
Hat Yai in Songkhla will host a city-centre celebration with live music and cultural performances, while Hua Hin offers a beachfront countdown with DJs and family-friendly activities and Udon Thani’s UD TOWN will feature live entertainment and decorative lighting.
Comprehensive safety and security measures have been put in place, with the Royal Thai Police and Tourist Police supporting crowd management to ensure an orderly and enjoyable experience for visitors.
