TikTok Emerges as Top Shopping Platform for Young Thais
TikTok has overtaken other platforms to become the preferred online shopping destination for Thais under 30, reveals a Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO) survey of 4,699 participants across Thailand.
Attracting the youth with "Shoppertainment" — a blend of shopping and entertainment through live streams and videos by users and influencers — the platform thrives on fun-filled commerce.
TPSO head Poonpong Naiyanapakorn notes that while 50-59 year-olds still opt for Facebook shopping due to its familiarity and attractive prices, they, along with older consumers, also trust traditional e-commerce sites like Shopee and Lazada.
These sites are favored for their robust management, and secure payment and refund processes that bolster buyer-seller trust.
The study indicates that younger shoppers make frequent but modest purchases, seeking joy in interactive and entertaining shopping experiences. Conversely, older customers are geared towards value and quality in their online purchases.
