Two foreign yoga instructors, a German man named Somphet Daoheuang and a Canadian woman Arbely Natalie Rubalcava Rojo, were arrested in Koh Phangan for teaching yoga without proper work permits.
They were charging 9,000 baht per participant for a course called "Shaolin experience" advertised by the yoga school Samma Karuna. The arrests followed a police raid, including tourist police, immigration officers, and local officials, acting on a complaint about the course.
Somphet, receiving 60% of the fee, confessed to his role in the program, which caters mainly to an international audience. Both are now facing legal proceedings.
