Government leaders highlight national readiness as Bangkok prepares to welcome global finance ministers and central bankers for landmark economic gathering
Thailand has reaffirmed its readiness to host the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, with senior government leaders emphasizing the country’s preparedness to stage one of the world’s most influential financial gatherings.
Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed that Thailand’s preparations are progressing smoothly as the nation prepares to welcome global economic policymakers to Bangkok.
The meetings are scheduled to take place from October twelve to October eighteen, two thousand twenty-six at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, which previously hosted the same event in nineteen ninety-one.
Thai authorities have been working closely with the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Thailand and international partners to coordinate infrastructure, logistics and security arrangements.
Officials say preparations are advancing in multiple areas, reflecting strong cooperation between government agencies and international institutions.
The global forum is expected to attract more than fifteen thousand participants from around one hundred ninety-one member economies.
Finance ministers, central bank governors, business leaders, academics and representatives from civil society will gather to discuss issues such as economic growth, financial stability, sustainable development and poverty reduction.
Hosting the meetings is widely viewed as a major opportunity for Thailand to demonstrate its economic resilience and its role as a regional center for international cooperation.
The event will highlight the country’s development progress and its capacity to organize large-scale global conferences.
Thailand’s host-country theme for the gathering, “Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience,” reflects a vision focused on inclusive growth and strong economic foundations.
Policymakers say the theme underscores the importance of human capital, financial stability and international collaboration in shaping sustainable development.
Preparations also include initiatives to promote safe and inclusive digital finance, including efforts to strengthen cybersecurity, reduce financial fraud and expand access to secure digital financial services.
These initiatives aim to showcase Thailand’s commitment to building a modern and resilient financial ecosystem.
Bangkok’s selection as the venue underscores the city’s status as a leading international conference destination, supported by advanced infrastructure, efficient transport networks and a strong hospitality sector.
Officials say Thailand’s ability to host the event again after more than three decades reflects the country’s continued progress and its growing role in global economic dialogue.
As preparations continue, Thai authorities express confidence that the meetings will provide a powerful platform for international cooperation while showcasing the nation’s leadership in advancing economic resilience and sustainable growth.
