Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced a $5 billion investment to create the AWS Asia-Pacific (Bangkok) Region by 2037.
The project aims to start operations in early 2025 and will support various Thai sectors with cloud services.
The news was shared at the AWS Summit Bangkok 2023, held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.
The new region will enhance Thailand's infrastructure with 10 edge locations and will be the fourth AWS region in ASEAN.
This expansion will also foster local data storage, reducing latency.
AWS will continue its cloud skills training program, started in 2017, and aims to train 100,000 individuals by 2026.
Major Thai companies like Bangkok Airways and Siam Commercial Bank have effectively used AWS services.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin emphasized this investment aligns with Thailand’s Cloud First policy and digital economy ambitions, fostering growth and opportunities for Thai businesses and startups.
