Bangkok police are facing intense scrutiny following the death of Krit Thammol, a 41-year-old driver suffering from an ischemic stroke, who was detained by Yannawa Police Station after officers mistakenly identified him as a drunk driver.
Krit, who provided airport transfer services at Suvarnabhumi Airport, was held for two hours on July 13, 2024, after colliding with several motorcycles while en route to a hospital.
His girlfriend, Ms Manao, contacted Sai Mai Tong Rod Facebook page seeking justice, as Krit fell unconscious at the station and later died from a brain hemorrhage.
Yannawa Police Station Superintendent Pol Col Ratthanont Ekthitikulpunt announced an investigation by Metropolitan Police Division 6.
While Pol Col Ratthanont claimed to have reached out to Krit's family, Ms Manao reported no direct contact and revealed a hospital test confirmed Krit had not been drinking.
She plans to pursue legal action against the officers involved.
