The Thai Marine Department is constructing four new piers to reduce travel time between Phuket and Krabi by sea. This project, costing 740 million baht, aims to boost regional economic and tourism development. The new piers will be completed by 2027.
The Thai Marine Department is expediting the construction of four new piers in the Andaman Sea to form a marine ring route, reducing travel time from Phuket to Krabi by an hour and a half.
This initiative aligns with the policies of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit.
Deputy Transport Minister Manaporn Charoensri announced that the project, costing 740 million baht, will connect the coasts of Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi, boosting the regional economy and enhancing tourism.
The Manoh Pier off Phuket will link to Phang Nga’s Chong Lard Pier and Krabi’s Tha Lane Pier.
Currently, road travel between these points takes three and a half hours, whereas the 97-km sea route will only take two hours.
The project will begin with upgrades to the existing Manoh and Chong Lard Piers, funded with 175 and 185 million baht, respectively.
Further funding of 380 million baht is sought for the construction of Por Bay Pier in Phuket and Tha Lane Pier in Krabi, aiming for completion by 2027.
The Marine Department, under the direction of Kritphet Chaichuay, plans to add new facilities like service buildings and larger car parks to accommodate tourists and cargo.
