Her Majesty Queen Suthida to Compete in Prestigious Sailing Regatta
Thailand's Queen joins international sailing team at the 36th Phuket King's Cup Regatta in a prominent show of royal and sporting commitment.
Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana will participate in Thailand's celebrated 36th Phuket King's Cup Regatta, aligning with the Vayu team to compete in the IRC Zero class.
This occasion marks her second consecutive involvement in this notable international competition.
The annual regatta, revered as Asia’s premier sailing event, is currently underway, with events spanning from November 30 to December 6.
Nearly 200 vessels are participating this year, transforming the scenic coastline of Phuket into a vibrant hub of maritime activity and excitement.
The regatta was originally established in 1987 to commemorate the 60th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great.
Since its inception, it has cultivated a robust legacy, paying tribute to the late King’s passion for sailing as well as his global achievements in the sport.
Today, it not only celebrates royal heritage but also showcases Thailand’s capacity to host world-class sailing events, further solidifying the nation's role on the international sporting map.
Thursday's races showcased more than 720 sailors navigating over 100 vessels of varying sizes, including the SV-14 class for disabled sailors, all battling the elements with skill and precision.
Despite the formidable challenges presented by strong winds and overcast skies, participants delivered exhilarating performances along the shores of Kata Beach, captivating audiences gathered along the sand.
The event also represents a pivotal moment for the Thai sailing community, fostering emerging talents and providing a significant boost to the local marine tourism industry—a vital sector for Phuket's economy.
Concluding the regatta, an awards ceremony will be held today at the Beyond Kata Hotel, where prizes will be presented by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty the Queen.
Phuket authorities have arranged several venues for the public to extend their warm welcome to the royal guests, including the Beyond Kata Hotel, Robinson Lifestyle Thalang, Muang Thalang School, and the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand's office in the Thalang district.
This meticulous planning underscores the collaborative spirit of the event, blending the royal presence with vibrant community participation.
