Nabil Anane Triumphs at ONE 172: A Milestone Victory
Nabil Anane reflects on his victory over Superlek, emphasizing hard work and rigorous training despite challenges.
Nabil Anane has secured a significant victory at ONE Championship 172, asserting himself against his rival Superlek in a match that underscored his personal growth and dedication as a fighter.
In the post-event press conference, Anane articulated the importance of this win, stating, "Yes, winning [against] Superlek means a lot to me.
It means very, very much to me, because this was my dream and my first goal, and I have achieved it."
Despite not contending for a title during this bout, Anane expressed disappointment that the match lacked championship stakes, stating, "I feel bad that it wasn't a match with a title.
But what can I do?" The bantamweight fighter highlighted the extensive sacrifices made in preparation for this encounter, noting that defeating Superlek was a long-held goal.
He addressed a common perception about height advantages in combat sports, clarifying that his success results from hard work rather than merely his physical stature: "Superlek weighed a little bit more than I do, and I want to let everyone know because a lot of people think that if you're tall, you have the advantage."
In describing his preparation, Anane emphasized the intense training regimen he undertook, crediting his coach, Mehdi Zatout, for his guidance and support.
He remarked on the challenges he faced in adapting his schedule for training, acknowledging the sacrifices that accompany high-level competition.
"It's very difficult for me to adapt my schedule.
It was very hard for me, and there were a lot of things that I needed to sacrifice to win.
And I feel like I could have done better too, but I sacrificed a lot for this victory over Superlek,” Anane concluded.
