Thai Woman Marries Two Men in One Ceremony with Family’s Warm Support
In a unique celebration in northeastern Thailand, a bride and her two Austrian partners jointly wed in a culturally rich ritual embraced by family and community
In Buriram province on Saturday, a 37-year-old Thai woman married two men simultaneously in a single ceremony that drew local attention and familial support.
The bride, former singer-songwriter Duangduan Ketsaro, wed her long-term partner Roman, a retired Austrian police officer, alongside Roman’s close friend Macky, an Austrian serving police officer, in the Prakhon Chai district.
The couple and their friend had openly discussed their evolving relationship and jointly decided to formalise their bond after a year of planning.
Both men and the bride received spiritual blessings and took part in traditional Thai rites, including a wrist-tying ritual that symbolises unity and mutual commitment.
Duangduan’s family, including her mother, expressed approval of the union.
Her mother shared that after years of witnessing her daughter’s dedication to her family, she simply wished for her happiness and well-being.
The ceremony, attended by close friends and relatives, also included moments of celebration such as the two grooms linking arms and leaping into a pond after the formal proceedings.
Each of the Austrian grooms paid a traditional dowry of one million Thai baht to Duangduan’s family.
Although widely celebrated by those present and shared broadly on social media, the three-way marriage does not confer legal recognition under Thai civil law, which only recognises monogamous unions.
Despite this, the event highlighted the community’s acceptance of diverse personal arrangements and underscored the couple’s emphasis on love, mutual respect and familial harmony within the framework of local cultural practices.
