Thailand has announced a sweeping reinforcement of gun control measures across the country, strengthening licensing rules, tightening background checks and expanding enforcement powers in an effort to enhance public safety.

The new measures follow a comprehensive security review by senior officials and law enforcement agencies.

Authorities said the updated framework will require more rigorous psychological and criminal background assessments for new licence applicants, alongside periodic reviews for existing firearm holders.

Under the revised regulations, officials will have greater authority to suspend or revoke licences if holders are found to pose a risk to public order.

The government is also introducing stricter monitoring of online firearms sales and illegal modification of weapons, areas identified as emerging concerns.

Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to intensify inspections of registered firearms and crack down on unlicensed possession.

Interior ministry representatives stated that coordination between provincial authorities and national police will be strengthened to ensure consistent enforcement nationwide.

In addition to regulatory changes, the government plans to expand public awareness campaigns on safe firearm storage and responsible ownership.

Officials said the approach combines prevention, enforcement and education in order to reduce gun-related incidents while respecting lawful ownership.

Thailand’s leadership emphasised that the revised measures are designed to reinforce security without disrupting legitimate sporting and agricultural uses of firearms.
