Thailand's average IQ ranks 5th in ASEAN and 64th in the world
The World of Statistics indicates that Japan holds the highest world IQ score of 106.48, leading globally.
In Asia, Thailand trails behind Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Vietnam, placing 5th regionally.
The report references a 2009 study by Lynn and Becker, showing Taiwan nearly matching Japan, while Singapore has an average IQ of 105.89.
China's average IQ is 104.1, making it fifth worldwide. The US average is 97.4, ranking 29th. Thailand's average IQ is 88.87.
In ASEAN, Singapore's average IQ leads, with Cambodia at 99.75 (15th globally), Myanmar at 91.18 (52nd), Vietnam at 89.5 (60th), and Thailand at 88.87 (64th).
According to David Wechsler's IQ classifications:
- Over 130: Highly intelligent
- 120-129: Very intelligent
- 110-119: Above average
- 90-109: Average
- 80-89: Slightly below average
- 70-79: Borderline deficiency
- Under 70: Intellectual disability
Thailand falls into the "Slightly Below Average" category.
Factors affecting average IQ include genetics, economic conditions, quality of education, and health. Cultural, environmental, and upbringing factors also play a role.
While a useful metric, IQ does not fully represent a person's intelligence, nor is it the sole predictor of success, which also depends on skills, motivation, and effort.
