Thailand's BDMS to Develop $697 Million Wellness City in Bangkok

Thailand's BDMS to Develop $697 Million Wellness City in Bangkok

BDMS Secures Long-term Lease for Wellness Complex Targeting Global Health Tourism Market
Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS), one of Asia's largest healthcare service providers, has announced plans to develop a comprehensive 'Wellness City' complex in Bangkok.

The project, valued at approximately 25 billion baht ($697 million USD), will be situated on a 15-rai (6-acre) site on Langsuan Road.

Details about the initiative were shared by Dr. Tanupol Virunhagarun, CEO of BDMS Wellness Clinic and BDMS Wellness Resort, during a recent press briefing.

The Wellness City, temporarily named 'Hercules,' is a mixed-use complex that will encompass health-focused residential units and commercial spaces.

The development includes a 46-storey tower and another smaller building with three floors above and one below ground.

Upon completion, the facility will feature a hotel, residential areas, and commercial spaces, alongside updated parking facilities that include electric vehicle (EV) accommodations.

The construction, managed by BDMS Silver Ltd., is slated to begin in early 2026 following environmental assessments and policy approvals.

The project is expected to take approximately 52 months to complete.

This initiative follows BDMS's initial foray into wellness real estate on Bangkok’s Wireless Road.

The project aligns with current global trends indicating strong growth in wellness real estate and health tourism sectors, as outlined by the Global Wellness Institute (GWI).

The GWI projects that the health sector, valued at $6.3 trillion USD in 2023, will grow to $9 trillion USD by 2028, with an annual growth rate of 7.3%.

Thailand, known for its strategic importance in the global tourism industry, has seen a decline in health tourism numbers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to the pandemic, Thailand welcomed approximately 15 million health tourists annually, but numbers fell to 13.5 million in 2023. With efforts to revitalize this sector, Thailand aims to regain its status as a leading health tourism destination.

In a bid to enhance Thailand's appeal to high-value international tourists, BDMS Wellness Clinic has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd. The partnership focuses on offering privileged services and health benefits to foreign visitors, aligning with the goals of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to promote long-stay tourism.

The agreement aims to draw attention to Thailand’s medical potential and is expected to help position the country among the top five global wellness tourism destinations.

This collaboration is part of a broader strategy to cater to the lifestyle preferences of affluent travelers through specialized packages, fostering the growth of ultra-luxury wellness services in Thailand.
