U-Tapao Airport and Eastern Aviation City Development Progress
Bangkok Airways Committed to 2025 Construction Start
Bangkok Airways reaffirmed its dedication to the U-Tapao International Airport and Eastern Aviation City project, with construction slated to start in mid-2025 and the first phase completed by 2029.
President Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth reported the development is currently delayed due to the pending high-speed rail linking Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi, and U-Tapao airports.
The project includes a 4 billion baht investment, envisioning an entertainment hub without a casino, featuring shopping centers, hotels, and a Formula 1 racetrack.
Despite the delay, the U-Tapao International Aviation Company (UTA) plans a 15 billion baht investment in terminal facilities in the first phase to handle 8-10 million passengers annually.
If the rail project stalls, the UTA must negotiate project timelines with the Eastern Economic Corridor board.
The airline is in discussions with the Eastern Special Development Zone Policy Office to ensure progress.
