Vietnam Launches First Anti-Dumping Review on Steel Strand Imports from Thailand
Hanoi initiates a formal reassessment of duties on Thai steel strand products as part of its trade remedy framework
Vietnam has initiated its first administrative review of anti-dumping measures applied to imports of steel strand products originating from Thailand, marking a new phase in the country’s trade remedy process.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed that the review will reassess the existing anti-dumping duties imposed on certain prestressed concrete steel strand products, following a request submitted by an interested party in accordance with Vietnamese trade regulations.
The review will examine whether the current duty rates remain appropriate, taking into account updated data on pricing, production costs, export volumes and market conditions during the period under review.
Authorities said the process is designed to ensure that trade remedies are applied fairly and in line with international commitments, while safeguarding the interests of domestic producers.
Thai exporters subject to the review have been invited to participate by submitting detailed questionnaires and supporting documentation within the prescribed timelines, while Vietnamese producers and other stakeholders may also provide relevant information.
The review will be conducted over several months, after which the ministry may decide to maintain, adjust or terminate the existing duties based on its findings.
Vietnam’s move reflects a more structured and transparent use of trade defence instruments as its industrial base expands and cross-border trade intensifies.
The outcome of the review is expected to influence bilateral trade flows in steel products and will be closely watched by manufacturers and exporters in both countries.
