Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will launch an on-demand electric boat taxi service in July, aiming to boost tourism.
The service, managed by Krung Thep Thanakom Co (KT), will connect with the city's electric rail systems, bus services, and motorcycle taxis.
Initially operating in Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem and its branches, such as Khlong Bang Lamphu, the pilot phase starts next month.
Once expanded city-wide, boats will operate on main canals, including Khlong Lat Phrao.
Using a specialized app, passengers will hail taxis with fares calculated by distance.
KT's managing director, Tharatporn Techakitkachorn, mentioned the procurement of six- to ten-seat vessels, with two prototypes trialing in July.
Alongside, BMA is also expanding its motorcycle taxi-hailing app, set to link 5,000 registered motorcycles and 90,000 licensed riders, ensuring regulated fares.
