Beware of Fake 'Labubu' Toys: Minister Warns Against Buying from Unverified Online Stores
A warning has been issued against purchasing the "Labubu" toy from unverified online stores after several scams were reported.
The popularity of the "Labubu" macaron version, which has been in high demand since a celebrity posted pictures of it on social media, has led to price hikes and low stocks.
Some online sellers are taking advantage of this trend by selling fake or low-quality toys at inflated prices or not delivering the product after payment.
The Minister of the Prime Minister's Office, Puangpetch Chunla-iad, who is also in charge of the Office of the Consumer Protection Board, is urging collectors to be cautious and only buy Labubu toys from verified sources to avoid being scammed.
Puangpetch recommended shopping at trustworthy online stores with clear location and phone numbers, registration with the department of business development, a DBD mark, positive reviews, and a minimum one-year operation.
Sellers deceiving consumers or selling misrepresented products face fines and imprisonment up to 60,000 baht and 3 years, according to Criminal Code §343.
For fraud cases, the penalty is up to 100,000 baht and 5 years in prison.
Victims can report scams to the 1166 OCPB hotline, applications, or Thaipoliceonline.com.
