Thailand Launches AI-Driven TISI Watch to Monitor Online Goods

The new system aims to enhance consumer protection and ensure compliance with industry standards in the e-commerce sector.
The Thai government has officially launched the “TISI Watch” system, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor and detect non-compliant consumer products in the online marketplace.

This initiative, announced by Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikarn Watthanachan on July 12, stems from the leadership of Industry Minister Akanat Promphan and aligns with efforts to develop consumer protection and promote fair competition within Thailand’s e-commerce sector.

Launched on July 7, TISI Watch operates continuously, scanning and analyzing product listings to ensure adherence to regulations set by the Thailand Industrial Standards Institute (TISI).

In a pilot phase lasting five months, the system scrutinized over 125,000 product links.

This scrutiny resulted in the removal of more than 2,800 inappropriate listings and the initiation of 777 legal cases, primarily directed at prominent e-commerce platforms.

The system has flagged various categories of non-compliant products, posing notable risks to public health and safety.

These categories include food-grade plastic containers, children’s toys, motorcycle exhaust pipes, power strips, power banks, and uncertified motorcycle helmets.

Looking ahead, the government plans to enhance TISI Watch's capabilities further.

Future expansions will include the detection of counterfeit products, identification of forged licenses, and oversight of goods seeking to evade regulations.

Additionally, a new public reporting channel will be established through the Industry Ministry’s Line account, allowing citizens to contribute tips, thus bolstering nationwide surveillance efforts.

Sasikarn emphasized that TISI Watch represents a proactive stride toward improving consumer safety.

The government aims to elevate online product security standards while ensuring that Thai businesses maintain fair competition in the evolving digital economy.
